An MDT approach to fetal anomalies
Heidi McCarthy, Bradford Hospitals NHS Trust
Introduction
In Bradford, in the year 18/19 we had around 5800 bookings, with approximately 160 patients diagnosed with an unexpected finding / fetal anomaly on ultrasound (only 61 were anomalies included in FASP 11 auditable conditions). Our MDT meeting is once a week, with each member of the team playing a vital role in the tertiary referral, follow up, counselling, perinatal testing, genetics and further care of the woman and her baby. This is in conjunction with the Bradford Butterfly pathway, which formulates birth plans and aftercare for babies who are likely to die in the antenatal or neonatal period, allowing their families to spend precious quality time with theirbaby instead of having that time invaded with hospital tests and treatment.
