BMUS Travelling Ambassadors

Apply for Specialist Support in MSK or Head & Neck – with the BMUS Travelling Ambassadors 2024

Below are some suggested options for support our Travelling Ambassadors can provide during their visit (though other requirements could be met):

  • Specialist 1-2-1 support with clinical lists

  • Support and guidance with clinical pathways

  • Support with guidance and SOPs

  • Tailored support session, in particular scanning area for small groups

  • Specialist advice for competency-based assessments

The Travelling Ambassadors are available to promote best practice and training in specialist ultrasound topics to a cohort in centres that might not otherwise have access to such opportunities.

HOW TO APPLY:

Meet our two BMUS Travelling Ambassadors:

Amanda Parry is a Clinical Lead Sonographer, Training and Development, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and can offer you specialist support in MSK.

Amanda has over 20 years’ experience of working in the private and public sector both here in the UK and in Australia, where she trained as a sonographer. She has performed all aspects of ultrasound scanning, but MSK has always been her specialist interest. Amanda currently works at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, where she is the Clinical Lead Sonographer for training and development, helping to teach and inspire the next generation of sonographers. Amanda has a high MSK workload from various sources and works closely as an MSK MDT to help create positive change within the department to aid patient care.

Amy Barnes is a Consultant Radiographer at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. She is a Head & Neck specialist, and can offer you specialist support in head & neck imaging.

Amy has 17 years’ experience in medical ultrasound. She has spent the last 9 years specialising in head & neck imaging, where she reports on complex pathology and independently performs fine needle aspiration and core biopsy. Her role involves audit, service improvement and research locally and nationally.

Amy regularly presents locally and nationally and has participated as a speaker at Radiopaedia 2022. She is an associate lecturer at the University of Derby, where she has helped develop and deliver an accredited post-graduate course in head and neck ultrasound for sonographers. She is a guest lecturer in Medical Ultrasound Education for King's College London. Amy is also an RCR iRefer BSHNI panel member and contributes to peer review for Radiography journal.
