Superintendent Sonographer
Michelle Davies
I qualified as a radiographer in 1993 and completed the postgraduate diploma in medical ultrasound in 1999.
My current role is a superintendent Sonographer at Morriston hospital, Swansea. My work involves managing a busy ultrasound department in a large acute hospital.
Myself and the other sonographers undertake and independently report a wide range of ultrasound examinations on many different parts of the body, taking into consideration the clinical presentation and previous medical history of the patient.
More recently, I have been trained to independently undertake ultrasound guided interventional procedures in the head and neck. This involves using ultrasound to safely guide a needle into suspicious lesions whilst avoiding important anatomical structures such as the carotid artery!!
My work is varied, interesting and sometimes challenging. No two days are ever the same.
