Recommendations for specialists practising ultrasound independently of radiology departments: safety, governance and education
The Royal College of Radiologists and the British Medical Ultrasound Society are pleased to announce the publication of the guidance ‘Recommendations for specialists practising ultrasound independently of radiology departments: safety, governance and education’. This guidance offers a framework for clinical ultrasound practice, primarily aimed at ultrasound practitioners not working under the umbrella of a radiology department.
Good governance is essential for the safety of the patient and protection of the practitioner. This document is intended to be used as a checklist for novice users, a reference source for experienced users and a good practice guide for collaboration between radiology departments and point of care ultrasound (POCUS) practitioners.
The guidance has been endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Society of Radiographers and is supported by the British Society of Rheumatology.
